Playing Content

The FreePlay player fills the screen and is built for TV remotes. It plays videos and image slides from a provider, a downloaded lesson, a plan, or your announcements folder, and it moves through them on its own or at your pace.

Before You Begin

info

Screens paired to a calendar use a separate scheduled player with slightly different controls. See Scheduled Playback on the TV.

Player Controls

Use your TV remote to control playback:

Remote ButtonAction
Select / Play-PausePause or resume
Right arrowSkip to the next slide or video
Left arrowGo back to the previous slide or video
Fast ForwardJump ahead 10 seconds in a video. On a slide, go to the next item
RewindJump back 10 seconds in a video. On a slide, go to the previous item
Up arrowOpen Select a Message to jump to a specific item
Down / BackExit the player
tip

You can also swipe on touch-enabled remotes. Swipe left to go forward, swipe right to go back, swipe down to open Select a Message, and swipe up to exit the player.

Videos and Slides

When you pause, a pause icon appears over the content. Press Select or Play-Pause again to resume.

Videos move to the next item when they finish. A video that is set to loop repeats until you skip ahead.

Image slides move on by themselves after a few seconds (5 seconds unless the provider sets its own timing). Press the Right arrow to move on sooner, or pause to hold a slide on screen.

Select a Message

Press Up during playback to open Select a Message. It shows every item with a thumbnail and title, and marks the one that's playing as NOW PLAYING. Move to any item and press Select to jump straight to it. Press Back to close it without changing anything.

Exiting the Player

Press Down or Back on your remote to leave the player. Where you end up depends on what you were playing:

  • Provider content - Back to the content browser
  • A plan - Back to the plan download screen. See Plan Mode
  • A download - Back to the Downloads screen
info

The screen stays awake while the player is open, so the TV won't go to sleep in the middle of a lesson.
