Scheduling Lessons
Once your classrooms are set up, the next step is scheduling lessons so your volunteers know exactly what to teach and when. Scheduling connects the lesson content from Lessons.church to your classroom calendar.
Viewing a Classroom Schedule
- Log in and navigate to your Portal.
- Click on the classroom you want to schedule.
- The schedule view displays the last 4 past lessons and the next 4 upcoming lessons. This gives you a quick look at what was recently taught and what is coming up.
Adding a Lesson to the Schedule
- From the classroom schedule view, click to add a new lesson.
- Select the date for the lesson.
- Choose the program you want to teach from (for example, "Bible Stories for Kids").
- Select the study within that program (for example, "Creation and Early Stories").
- Pick the specific lesson you want to schedule.
- Choose the appropriate venue for this classroom. Venues represent age-group-specific versions of the lesson content (for example, "Preschool" or "Elementary"). Picking the right venue ensures your volunteers see content tailored to their classroom's age group.
- Save the scheduled lesson.
The lesson will now appear on the classroom's schedule for that date.
Programs, studies, and lessons are the content hierarchy on Lessons.church. A program contains multiple studies, and each study contains individual lessons. Venues provide age-specific variations of the same lesson.
How Volunteers Use the Schedule
Once you have scheduled lessons, your volunteers can open the portal, select their classroom, and immediately see what is coming up. They can review the lesson content ahead of time, download any materials they need, and arrive prepared. No more guesswork about what to teach next.
Tips for Scheduling
- Plan ahead -- Schedule several weeks of lessons at a time so your team can prepare in advance.
- Stay consistent -- Following a program sequentially helps kids build on what they learned the previous week.
- Check the history -- Use the past lesson list to make sure you are not accidentally repeating content.
What's Next
After scheduling lessons, you may want to customize the lesson content for specific classrooms to match your teaching style and age group needs.
