Requesting to Join a Group
Some groups require approval before you can become a member. When a group has this setting, you submit a join request — optionally including a message to the group leader — and wait for the leader to approve or decline. You can view the status of your pending requests and cancel them at any time.
Before You Begin
- You must be logged in to your B1.church account to request to join a group.
Joining vs. Requesting to Join
Groups can have different join policies set by their administrators:
- Open -- Click Join Group on the group's detail page and you are immediately added as a member.
- Request required -- Click Request to Join to submit a request that a group leader must approve before you become a member.
- Closed -- No join button appears. Members must be added manually by leaders.
How to Submit a Join Request
- Browse to the group you want to join. See Browsing Groups if you need help finding it.
- Open the group's detail page.
- Click Request to Join.
- A dialog appears where you can optionally write a message to the group leader explaining why you would like to join.
- Click Submit to send your request.
The group's leaders will receive a notification about your request. Once they review it, you will receive a notification with the outcome.
Including a brief message — such as how you heard about the group or what you hope to get out of it — can help the leader make a faster decision.
Checking the Status of Your Requests
After submitting a request, you can view its status from the Groups page:
- Navigate to the Groups page on your church's B1.church site.
- Scroll down to the Pending Requests section.
- Each pending request shows the group name and the date you submitted it.
If a request has been approved or declined, you will receive a notification — approved requests move you into the group as a member.
Cancelling a Request
If you change your mind before a leader reviews your request:
- Go to the Groups page.
- Find your request in the Pending Requests section.
- Click Cancel next to the request.
The request is immediately withdrawn and the leader will no longer see it.
