Installing as an App (PWA)

B1.church supports installation as a Progressive Web App (PWA), which lets you add your church's member portal to your phone's home screen just like a native app. This gives you a full-screen, app-like experience without going through the App Store or Google Play.

Before You Begin

  • You need your church's B1.church URL: https://yourchurchname.b1.church
  • Use a supported browser: Safari on iOS or Chrome on Android

What is a PWA?​

A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a website that can be installed on your device and behaves like a native app. When you install B1.church as a PWA, it:

  • Opens full-screen without browser navigation bars
  • Appears on your home screen with your church's icon and name
  • Works smoothly with your church's branding and theme colors

The PWA is a great option if you prefer not to install a separate app from the App Store or Google Play. It provides the same member portal experience you get in the browser, in a more convenient package.

The Install Page​

The easiest way to install is your church's dedicated install page:

The page detects your device and shows the right instructions automatically:

  • iPhone — step-by-step Safari "Add to Home Screen" instructions
  • Android — a one-tap Install on Home Screen button in Chrome
  • Desktop — a QR code you can scan with your phone to open the install page there

You can get to the install page in several ways:

  • Open the menu (☰) in the member portal and tap Install App (the item is hidden once the app is already installed)
  • Follow a link your church shares by text, email, or from the Sunday screen
  • Type the URL directly into your browser
For church staff

Share the install page link with your congregation — put it in your bulletin, newsletter, or on a slide. It walks each member through the exact steps for their device. You can also reach it from the Download the App quick action on your B1Admin dashboard.

You can also install the PWA manually from any page on your church's B1.church site using the browser steps below — the install page is just the guided way to do it.

When you launch the installed app, it opens directly to your member dashboard, ready for you to log in.

Installing on iPhone (iOS — Safari)​

  1. Open Safari on your iPhone and go to https://yourchurchname.b1.church/mobile/install (replace yourchurchname with your church's URL slug).
  2. Tap the Share button (the box with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. The name will default to your church's name. Tap Add in the top-right corner.

The app icon will appear on your home screen. Tap it to open the member portal in full-screen mode.

PWA installation on iOS requires Safari. If you are using Chrome or another browser on iPhone, switch to Safari first.

Installing on Android (Chrome)​

  1. Open Chrome on your Android device and go to https://yourchurchname.b1.church/mobile/install.
  2. Tap the Install on Home Screen button. (If the button isn't available, tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner and select Add to Home screen.)
  3. Tap Add when prompted.

The app icon will appear on your home screen. Tap it to open the member portal.

After Installing​

Once installed, the PWA opens directly into the member portal in a dedicated full-screen window. You can:

  • Log in with your existing ChurchApps account
  • Access all the member features your church has enabled — groups, giving, check-in, serving plans, and more
  • Return to it at any time by tapping the icon on your home screen

The app icon will show a notification badge (a small number badge) when you have unread messages, so you can see at a glance if there is something new waiting for you.

The PWA requires an internet connection. Unlike some native apps, it does not cache all content for offline use.

What About the Old B1 Mobile App?​

The legacy native B1 Mobile app on iOS and Android has been deprecated and is no longer being updated. The PWA is the supported way to access the B1.church member portal on a phone going forward, and it covers every member-facing feature the native app offered. If you previously installed the native app, switch to the PWA at your convenience.
