WorshipCommons Overview

WorshipCommons is a free, open library of worship songs for churches. It holds public-domain hymns and songs that writers chose to share, each with lyrics, a chord chart you can transpose to any key, and slides for Sunday. Visit worshipcommons.org to find a song, change the key, print the chart, and put the lyrics on a screen.

WorshipCommons is for worship leaders, musicians, and tech volunteers who need songs they can use without extra fees, and for songwriters who want to give their songs to the church. You don't need an account to browse, play, print, or project songs. A free ChurchApps account lets you save songs and share songs of your own.

What your church may do depends on each song's license. Public-domain hymns are free for every use in the United States (best-effort; other countries may differ). Songs shared under the WorshipCommons License are free for worship, and the writer keeps commercial rights. Open a song's About & rights tab to see exactly what it allows. WorshipCommons doesn't replace your CCLI license for the rest of the songs you sing.

Key Features​

  • Search and filters -- Search by title, first line, tune, theme, scripture, or writer, and filter by key, tempo, language, license, and more. See Finding Songs.
  • Chord charts in any key -- Transpose, set a capo, switch to Nashville numbers, and tap a chord to see its guitar and piano shape. See The Song Page.
  • Hear the song -- Play a demo recording or a piano preview, slow it down, and practice with a metronome.
  • Print and download -- Print a chord chart in your key, or download ChordPro, lyrics, sheet music, and audio packs when a song has them.
  • Lead and project -- Lead worship from a browser tab with words that follow the music, or open a simple lyrics projector. See Presenting and Exporting Songs.
  • Exports -- Download slides for FreeShow, OpenLP, ProPresenter, or PowerPoint, or copy a song for OnSong or Planning Center. B1 Admin can add WorshipCommons songs straight to your song library.
  • Service plans -- Build a set for Sunday, choose the key and sections for each song, and share one link with the band. See Service Plans.
  • Share your songs -- Upload a song you wrote, a translation, or an arrangement, and choose how it's licensed. See Sharing a Song.
  • Community edits -- Anyone signed in can propose a fix, and a reviewer decides. See Proposing Edits and Reporting Songs.
  • Writer pages -- Every writer gets a page listing their songs, with an optional bio and links. See Your Account and Writer Page.
