Finding Songs on WorshipCommons

The Discover page is the WorshipCommons song library. Search for a song you already know, or narrow the list with filters to find something new for Sunday. You don't need to sign in to search or play songs.

Searching the Library​

  1. Go to worshipcommons.org and click Discover (or Browse Songs) at the top of the page.
  2. Type in the search box. You can search by title, first line, tune name, theme, scripture reference, or writer. Results update as you type.
  3. Use the Sort by menu to order results by Most downloaded, Most saved, Newest, or Title A–Z.
  4. Click a song title to open its song page.

Press the / key anywhere on the Discover page to jump to the search box.

Each row shows the song's writer, year, scripture reference (if it has one), download and save counts, up to three themes, its key, and its tempo in BPM. Click the play button at the start of a row to hear a demo recording or a piano preview without leaving the list.

Filtering Songs​

Click Filters to open or close the filter panel (it starts open on larger screens). Within a group you can pick more than one value; across groups, a song must match every filter you set. The number next to each option shows how many songs match.

  • Theme -- Topics such as Praise, Grace, Hope, or Christmas. Click Show more for the full list.
  • Confidence -- How complete the song's materials are: Sunday-ready, Score, Unchecked score, Chart only, or Lyrics only.
  • Ready to use -- Works with just a guitar, Has accompaniment, Has chart, Has score, and Has stems.
  • Key and Meter -- Pick a specific key or hymn meter.
  • Tempo -- Slow (under 73 BPM), Moderate (73–100), or Upbeat (100+).
  • Language -- Songs in a particular language.
  • Source -- The song's license, such as Public domain, Free for worship, or a Creative Commons license. Licenses marked with ⚠ are non-commercial.
  • Extras -- Has demo recording.

Active filters appear as chips above the results. Click a chip's X to remove it, or click Clear all filters to start over.

The Language filter starts on the language you've picked for the site, so you see songs in your language first. To see songs in every language, remove the language chip above the results. To change the site's language, use the globe picker at the bottom of any page.

When a Song Isn't There​

If nothing matches, loosen a filter or clear your search. WorshipCommons only holds songs that are in the public domain or that writers chose to share, so most copyrighted songs aren't here. When a search comes up empty, click Search SongSelect → to look for the song in the CCLI catalog instead.

Other Ways to Browse​

The links at the bottom of every page lead to ready-made lists:

  • New songs -- Every song added to the library, newest first.
  • Public domain hymns -- Hymns free for every use.
  • No CCLI needed -- Songs your church can use without reporting to CCLI.
  • Christmas songs -- A seasonal collection.

Click Listen in the top menu to hear recently shared songs from writers, shuffled, one after another. Click + Save song while one plays to add it to your saved songs (you'll be asked to sign in).
