Group Details

When you click on a group from the groups page, you are taken to the group detail page. What you see depends on whether you are logged in or not, with logged-in members seeing additional sections and features.

Before You Begin

Visitor View (Not Logged In)

If you are not logged in, you will see the following:

  • Header -- The group's name with its meeting time and location. On a computer, the group's photo appears above it.
  • Sign in to join -- A button under the group's name. Sign in (or create an account) to join the group or request to join. After you sign in, you are brought back to the group and taken straight to the join step.
  • About -- The full description of the group explaining its purpose and what to expect.
  • Leaders -- The names of the group's leaders. You can tap a leader's name to view their profile.
  • Upcoming Events -- Up to three upcoming events for the group, each showing the date, time, and event title, with a Register link when the event takes registrations. If the group has no upcoming events, this section is hidden.

Member View (Logged In)

If you are logged in but not a member of the group, you see the group's header and About section along with the join option for the group (see Joining a Group below). The sections described next appear once you are a member.

When you are a member, the group's header shows its name, meeting day, time, and location, and an Open chat button if your church has turned on group chat. If you lead the group, a You · Leader tag appears under the name. On a computer, the header sits in a column on the left with the group's photo, and the sections appear to its right.

The page is one sheet of sections. Each shows a short preview, and a link in the section's header opens the full view; tap Back to group name to return. The available sections are:

  • Next event -- The group's next upcoming event, with Going / Maybe / Can't go buttons (see Event RSVPs). Tap All events to open the group's calendar: use the arrows to move between months, and switch between Calendar (a month grid where you tap a day to see its events) and List (the month's events in date order, grouped by day). When you are looking at the current month, the list starts from today, so it only shows what's still coming up. If the group's events have tags, you can filter by tag.
  • This week's lesson -- If your group is associated with a Lessons.church plan type and this week's lesson has parent take-home content, it appears under Next event (members only).
  • Meetings -- The group's recent meetings, newest first. Each one shows the date, how many people were there (for example, "8 of 12 there") or Upcoming for a future date, and the leader's note for that meeting, with any bold text, lists, and links kept. Tap All meetings to see them all. A meeting only appears once it has a note or attendance. See Meeting Notes and Attendance below.
  • Leader notes -- Visible to the group's leaders only. Shows the two newest leader notes; tap Open notes to read them all and post a new one. See Leader Notes below.
  • Forms -- Forms your church has linked to the group, up to three at a time. Members see the forms that are open, each with a Fill out button. Leaders also see closed forms (marked Closed), how many answers each has, and the registration forms of the group's events (marked Event registration). Tap All forms to see them all. Only shown when the group has linked forms. See Linked Forms below.
  • Messages -- The latest messages from the group chat. Tap Open chat to read and post. Only shown to members, and only if your church has turned on group chat for this group. See Group Conversations for more details.
  • Members -- A preview of the group's members (leaders first) and a count of members and leaders. Tap All members for the full list, which you can search with Search Members. Tap a member's name to visit their profile in the member directory.
  • Resources -- The first few shared files and links posted for the group. Tap All resources to see them all; you can download uploaded files or open linked resources.
  • Plans -- The group's next service plan. Tap All plans to see them all. Only shown if the group has plans.
  • About -- The group's full description, rendered with rich text formatting. Only shown if the group has a description.

Members also see a Leave Group link at the bottom of the page.

Leader Capabilities

If you are a leader of the group, you have additional editing capabilities:

  • Create and edit events -- Tap All events, then Add Event to add an event to the group calendar. When creating an event, you can reserve rooms and resources alongside it — select from available rooms and resources, set optional setup and teardown times, and the booking request is automatically submitted for approval.
  • Edit repeating events -- When you open a repeating event to edit it, B1 first asks which dates to change: Just this date, This and all following dates, or All dates. Choose one and click Save to open the event. If you chose Just this date, the Recurring switch is hidden and your changes (or a delete) apply only to that one date.
  • Delete events -- Tap the pencil icon next to an event, then tap Delete event and confirm. For a repeating event, the delete follows the dates you picked when opening it -- just this date, this and all following dates, or the whole series. A deleted date no longer appears on the group calendar or in members' upcoming events.
  • Set event reminders -- When editing an existing event, turn on Send reminders to remind people before it starts. Pick when they go out, the Time of Day, Who should be reminded?, and an optional Message, then choose Push, Email, or, if your church has texting set up, Text under Send By. Texts only go to people who turned on text reminders in their Notification Preferences.
  • Manage resources -- Upload files (up to 100 MB of storage), add links, or delete existing resources.
  • Write meeting notes and track attendance -- Use Add note and Take attendance in the Meetings section. See Meeting Notes and Attendance.
  • Keep private leader notes -- Use the Leader notes section. See Leader Notes.
  • Read and print form answers -- Use the Forms section. See Linked Forms.

To change the group's name, description, or member list, use B1 Admin. See Group Members.

Meeting Notes and Attendance

Group leaders, and staff who can take attendance, see Add note and Take attendance in the Meetings section header. Members see the same list of meetings and notes, so anyone who missed a week can catch up.

To write a recap of a meeting:

  1. Tap Add note.
  2. Pick the meeting Date. It starts on your most recent meeting from the past week, or today. You can choose a future date to post a note ahead of a meeting.
  3. Write the note in the Notes box -- for example, what was covered, announcements, or prayer requests. The toolbar lets you add bold text, lists, and links.
  4. Tap Save.

If the date already has a note, it opens so you can edit it. The Take attendance screen has the same Notes box under the date, so you can write the recap while you take attendance. Leaders can also tap a meeting in the list to open its attendance and note. Meeting notes are the same session notes staff see on the group's Sessions in B1 Admin -- see Recording Attendance.

Leader Notes

Leader notes is a private feed for the group's leaders -- for example, to keep track of follow-ups or pastoral concerns. Only the group's leaders can see it or post to it. Other members never see it, and neither do church staff unless they are also leaders of the group.

  1. In the Leader notes section, tap Open notes (or tap any note).
  2. Type your note in the box at the bottom and send it.

Until someone posts, the feed shows "No notes yet" with the reminder "Only this group's leaders can see these notes." Leaders see the same notes on the group's page in B1 Admin -- see Group Members.

Linked Forms

Church staff can link a form to your group in B1 Admin -- for example, a prayer request card or a trip permission slip (see Linking a Form to a Group). Linked forms appear in the group's Forms section. Members tap Fill out to open a form and submit it.

Leaders can also read and print the answers:

  1. In the Forms section, tap a form (or tap All forms and pick one). Registrations for the group's events that ask registration questions are listed here too.
  2. The list shows each person who answered and the date they submitted. Answers from people who weren't signed in show as Anonymous.
  3. Tap a person to see their answers, with each question shown above its answer.
  4. Tap Print to print that person's answers, or tap Print all above the list to print every answer for the form.

The printout has your church's logo (the Light Background Logo set in B1 Admin, if one was uploaded) and name centered at the top, then the form name, then each person's answers headed with their name and submission date. Leaders can read answers but can't change them or edit the form. Tap All forms to go back to the list.

Joining a Group

When you are logged in and not yet a member, a join button appears on the group detail page. The button label depends on the group's join policy:

  • Join Group -- The group is open. Clicking this immediately adds you as a member.
  • Request to Join -- The group requires approval. Clicking this opens a dialog where you can include an optional message to the group leader, then submit your request. See Requesting to Join a Group for details on managing your requests.

After you send a request, the button is replaced by a Request Pending notice: "Your request to join has been sent. A group leader will review it."

If you were not logged in and clicked Sign in to join, you return to the group after signing in and the join step starts automatically: an open group adds you right away, and a group that requires approval opens the Request to Join dialog.

If neither button appears, the group is closed and members must be added manually by a leader or administrator.

info

You must be signed in to join or request to join a group. If a group is closed and you want to join, contact your church office or one of the group's leaders.
