Proposing Edits and Reporting Songs on WorshipCommons

WorshipCommons is improved by the people who use it. Anyone signed in can propose a change to a live song -- fix a chord, add a verse, correct a spelling, or add a missing file. Nothing changes until a reviewer approves it. If a song was shared by someone who doesn't own it, or something else is wrong, you can report it.

Before You Begin

Proposing an Edit

  1. On the song page, find the Improve it panel and click Propose an edit.
  2. Under What are you proposing?, choose one:
    • Correction -- Fix the lyrics, chords, or details, such as the scripture reference or key.
    • Additional file -- Add a score, score scan, demo recording, accompaniment, MIDI melody, stems, cover art, or a lyrics file. Nothing else about the song changes.
    • Master recording -- Add the finished recording of the song under its own license. The song's license stays the same.
    • Removal request -- Ask a reviewer to take the song down.
  3. Make your changes or add your files.
  4. In the note box, tell the reviewer what changed and why (at least 10 characters). For a removal request, say who you are and why the song should come down.
  5. Check My change is accurate, anything I add is mine to give, and I give it under this song's license. (Removal requests skip this box.)
  6. Click the button at the bottom, such as Propose this edit or Request removal.

A reviewer compares your change with the live song and decides. Track it in My submissions. Once it's approved, you're credited on the song page under Contributors & changes on the About & rights tab.

info

Only the writer can change a song's license. When you propose a correction, the license is shown but can't be edited.

tip

To add a song's master recording, click Add a master recording in the Improve it panel. If a song has a MIDI file but no sheet music, the Sheet music tab may show a link to help transcribe it.

Songs Closed to Public Edits

Some writers choose a license that keeps every change with them. On those songs, the Propose an edit link doesn't appear, and opening the edit page shows The writer makes all changes to this song. If you spot a problem, use the Spotted a problem? Let us know. link to report it instead.

Two groups can still propose edits to a closed song:

  • The song's publisher -- The account that published it, including anyone the WorshipCommons team added as a co-publisher.
  • WorshipCommons reviewers -- The team members who review submissions.

Their changes still go through review like any other edit.

Reporting a Song

Use a report when a song was shared without the owner's permission, or when something else is wrong.

  1. On the song page, click Report this song in the Improve it panel. (You can also click Report a song at the bottom of any page.)
  2. In Which song?, enter the title or the song page's address.
  3. Under What's the problem?, choose a reason, such as Someone shared a song they don't own, The words or melody are AI-generated, or The chart or files are wrong.
  4. Under What's wrong?, explain the problem. For an ownership claim, include who owns the song and how you know.
  5. If you chose Someone shared a song they don't own, also choose Who are you?, enter your name and email, check the good-faith statement, and type your full legal name as your Signature.
  6. Click Send the report.

A real person will get back to you within two business days, and ownership claims are read first. When a claim holds up, WorshipCommons aims to take the song down within 48 hours. You can also email support@churchapps.org.
