The WorshipCommons Song Page

Every song on WorshipCommons has its own page with the lyrics and chords, a way to hear the tune, practice tools, printable charts, and downloads. Everything on this page works without signing in, except saving the song to your account.

What's at the Top

The top of the page shows the song's cover, title, first line, writer and year, and the hymn tune name when there is one. Below that you'll see:

  • License badge -- For example Public domain, WC (Free for worship), or a Creative Commons badge such as CC BY.
  • Themes and meter -- Click a theme or meter tag to find other songs that share it.
  • Key, BPM, time signature, and estimated sing time, plus a Recommended key when the song has one.

On the right are the main actions:

  • Lead worship -- Opens a full-screen, follow-along lyrics view with music. See Presenting and Exporting Songs.
  • + Add to service plan -- Adds the song, in the key on screen, to one of your service plans.
  • Heart (Save song) -- Saves the song to your account. You'll be asked to sign in first.
  • Songwriter's page -- Appears when the writer has added links where churches can support their work.

Click the writer's name to open their writer page, which lists all of their songs in the library.

Hearing the Song

When a song has audio, a player strip appears under the title. Click the play button to hear it.

  • If the writer shared a recording, you'll hear the Demo recording or Master recording.
  • Otherwise you'll hear a Piano preview -- a piano playing the melody file. The piano preview follows the key you choose on the page, so you hear the song where you'll sing it.

Chords & Lyrics

The Chords & lyrics tab shows the chart. Use the toolbar above it to set it up for your team:

  1. Key -- Choose a new key and every chord transposes. The original key is marked (original).
  2. Capo -- Pick a capo fret. The chart shows the chord shapes to play (for example, 2 — C shapes) while the song still sounds in the key you chose.
  3. Transpose -- Click − or + to move the key down or up one half step at a time.
  4. Display -- Turn Chords off for a lyrics-only view, or turn on Nashville to show chords as numbers.
  5. Text size and Columns -- Make the text bigger, or show the chart in two columns.

Hover over or tap any chord to see how to play it on guitar and piano. For longer songs, use the Jump to buttons to scroll straight to a verse or chorus.

info

Songs that only have lyrics don't show the key, capo, or chord controls, because there are no chords to change.

Under the chart you'll find:

  • Print / PDF -- Opens a printable chart in the key, capo, and chord setting you chose. On that page, pick a Text size (including Large print), choose 2 columns or Show chords, then click Print. Use your browser's print dialog to save it as a PDF.
  • ChordPro and Lyrics (TXT) -- Download the song as a ChordPro file or plain text.
  • Copy lyrics -- Copies the words (without chords) to your clipboard.
  • Chart PDF -- Appears when the song has a ready-made chart PDF.

A line at the bottom tells you whether the song needs to be reported to CCLI. Most songs on WorshipCommons don't.

Sheet Music

Songs with a score show a Sheet music tab. It shows the melody in the key you've chosen. Click Full score with all parts → to open the full score, where you can pick a Key and a Part and click Print. If the writer uploaded a sheet music PDF, it appears here too, with Open full size → and Download PDF links.

About & Rights

The About & rights tab answers "where does this come from, and may we use it?" It shows:

  • The writer, the song's scripture reference, its themes, and its meter
  • Sing it to another tune -- Other hymn tunes in the same meter
  • Contributors & changes -- Who has worked on the song and the edits that were approved
  • Rights -- What the license lets you do, what it doesn't, and what you must do, with Copy attribution to copy the credit line for a bulletin or slide

Practice Tools

The Practice panel helps your team rehearse:

  • Tempo -- Slow the music down or speed it up (50%–150%) using the slider or the − and + buttons.
  • Practice parts -- When the music has more than one part (such as soprano, alto, tenor, and bass), click a part to hear it alone, or All to hear them together.
  • Metronome -- Click ▶ Metronome to hear a click at the current tempo.
  • Play a note -- Plays the starting note of the key on the page, so you can pitch the room.

Downloads and Projection

The Downloads panel always offers Chord chart (print) in your current key and capo. Depending on what the writer shared, you may also see a Composition pack, Audio pack, or Multitracks (ZIP).

The Projection panel opens the lyrics projector and exports slides. See Presenting and Exporting Songs.

At the bottom of the page:

  • Scripture connection -- Shows the song's scripture reference with the passage text from the World English Bible. If a song has no reference yet, click Propose one → to suggest one.
  • Related songs -- Other versions of the song in the same language and songs with similar titles.
  • Translations -- The song in other languages. Click Add one → to share a translation (see Sharing a Song). If the song's license doesn't allow translations, you'll see Translations need the writer's permission.
